A KIRKBY Lonsdale pupil has been awarded a prestigious national engineering scholarship.
Owain Houghton, 16, from the town’s Queen Elizabeth School, has won the Arkwright Engineering Scholarship which identifies him as one of the country’s future leaders in engineering.
Year 12 pupil Owain will receive £600 to enhance his studies in engineering. The school will get £400.
The scholarships are recognised by top universities and the industry and are supported by employers and organisations such as Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems and Microsoft Research.
Owain completed a rigorous selection process consisting of a detailed application form, a two-hour exam and an interview at Lancaster University.
Scholarships trust director Dr Martin Thomas said: “With the competition for rewarding jobs becoming ever-more fierce, the receipt of an Arkwright Engineering Scholarship can help dynamic young people to be the country’s future leaders.”
