A KENDAL chippy became a TV set for a day as scenes for a new comedy were filmed in the town centre.
TV stars Chris Addison (The Thick Of it, In The Loop, Mock The Week), Jo Joyner (EastEnders, No Angels) and Charles Edwards (Downton Abbey) spent the day at Fish Xpress, Highgate, to shoot a scene for upcoming Sky Living series Trying Again.
The comedy is set in the Lake District and is described by the creators as ‘an original British comedy about a couple struggling with life after an affair’.
Fish Xpress owner Craig Moffat spent the day watching film crews take over his shop and said it was ‘surreal’.
There will be a familiar face for customers when the show airs as shop assistant Rachel Thomas, 22, was chosen to be an extra.
Rachel, a former Kirkbie Kendal School pupil, said: “It’s definitely been interesting being filmed working – I must have cleaned some of these tables about 50 times.”
Actor/comedian Addison co-created the series along with The Thick of It partner Simon Blackwell, and said of the show: “We’ve been dying to make it for years so it’s really exciting to be getting it off the ground with such a great cast.”
Show creators Avalon Television described the story behind the show as “Meg (Joyner) and Matt (Addison) are meant to be together, they are pretty sure of that. And they really are trying to put her indiscretion with her boss Iain (Edwards) behind them. But it is not easy when you live in a small town where everyone knows everyone’s business and you have bills to pay.”
The eight-part series sees cast and crew filming on location in the Lakes for 10 days, before moving production to London.
