THE head of Cumbria’s largest business network has supported The Westmorland Gazette’s Action For Jobs campaign.

The new initiative aims to give a greater profile to job and training opportunities locally.

Rob Johnston MBE, is the head of Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, which has offices in Kendal and Barrow, among others.

The membership organisation represents both small to medium enterprises and larger corporate organisations, as well as those setting up as self-employed, or employers looking to expand or create jobs.

Mr Johnston said: “Cumbria Chamber of Commerce is delighted to get behind this new initiative and we look forward to working with the Westmorland Gazette on it moving forward.

“Earlier this year we launched Cumbria Business Growth Hub, which is all about stimulating and supporting growth of jobs and businesses in Cumbria. Judging by the businesses we're already working with we expect to see some great opportunities coming forward – not least for local young people, who we're especially keen to see finding rewarding careers."

The Cumbria Business Growth Hub is the ‘First Stop Shop’ for businesses in Cumbria that want to increase their competitiveness or grow by creating jobs.

Mr Johnston added: “By taking advantage of the Growth Hub, you’ll be equipping yourself with the skills and information you need to grow your business successfully, through access to a great range of services, designed around you. The Hub puts you right at the heart of a proactive business community, with all the opportunities that offers your business – make sure you’re part of it!
