A MAN died this afternoon after getting into difficulty in Thirlmere Reservoir.
Emergency services were called to the Kings Head Hotel area at around 3pm after the man was seen in distress by a member of the public.
Cumbria Police confirmed a woman was also seen in difficulty at the beauty spot but managed to get out of the water.
She was treated by medics and airlifted to Cumberland Infirmary by the Great North Air Ambulance Pride of Cumbria helicopter.
Officers said the man, thought to be aged 27, died in the water.
His family has been informed and are supported, police said.
Police are not treating the incident as suspicious.
A fire service rescue boat was brought in from Penrith to help search for the man.
North West Ambulance Service were also called to the scene.
