A WOMAN was flown to hospital after falling while walking at a quarry in the Lake District.
Coniston Mountain Rescue Team said the walker slipped on a footpath and broke her ankle at Tilberthwaite, a small ex-mining hamlet a few miles north of Coniston.
The incident happened at around 6pm on Tuesday.
Eleven rescuers stretchered the woman to their Land Rover and took her to a waiting Great North Air Ambulance, which had landed a few hundred metres away.
The helicopter airlifted her to Furness General Hospital in Barrow for treatment.
