A STUDENT is set to face his biggest fear to raise money in memory of two local young people.
Matt Wightman, 16, of Lingmoor Rise, Kendal, is planning to conquer his fear of heights with a skydive over Flookburgh on March 17 for Help for Heroes and Furness-based self-harm charity, SAFA.
He chose the charities after being touched by the deaths of soldier, Ryan Ward, and Helena Farrell, 15, who both studied at Kirkbie Kendal School, where he is a sixth former.
Mr Ward, 20, died last year after returning home from a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Miss Farrell’s body was found in Kendal woodland in January.
He said: “I got the idea after me and a mate were saying that it would be good if something positive could come from what happened. There’s been a lot of sadness at school.”
