A LAKE District mountain rescue team has described as 'shocking' the number of walkers heading out without basic equipment for winter conditions.
Although it has been a relatively quiet weekend for Cumbria's teams, Wasdale Mountain Rescue took to social media to urge outdoor lovers to be responsible.
It made a plea to those taking advantage of the stunning Lakeland scenery to go prepared.
Writing on its Facebook page this evening, the team said the fells were in 'full winter condition'.
They continued: "It is essential that you carry an ice axe and crampons and be able to use them if you venture out (along with all other essential gear).
"Can't believe how many people that were on Scafell Pike today without even basic equipment. Shocking!"
