BOXING Day sales have got off to a slow start with only a handful of early shoppers keen to grab a post-Christmas bargain.

While hundreds queued in front of shops from midnight in some parts of the country, Kendal’s town centre shops were quiet for the first few hours of trading.

But with some retailers offering up to 70 per cent discounts, things are expected to pick up throughout the day.

The Westmorland Shopping Centre and Elephant Yard were among the places where small numbers were browsing offers.
