FESTIVE shoppers can take advantage of free parking across the South Lakes in the run up to Christmas.
South Lakeland District Council will not charge drivers in any of its pay-and-display car parks on the four Sundays in December before the big day.
The incentive, which starts on December 2, will also apply to the pay-on-exit system used at the Westmorland Shopping Centre in Kendal.
Coun Ian Stewart, portfolio holder for economy and enterprise, said: “SLDC is offering festive cheer with the timely gesture of free parking to help seasonal weekend shoppers while they carry out their Christmas shopping.
“This is a busy time of year for all retail businesses and our local shops need supporting.
“The council will continue to do what it can help by waiving parking charges on Sundays during the build up to Christmas.”
He added: “The council wishes everyone in the retail trade a busy and prosperous Christmas and New Year.”
