Douglas LEYLAND
LEYLAND Douglas It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dad, Douglas Leyland, on June 24, 2024. Douglas was predeceased by his parents Harold and Gladys, and his siblings Ron and Barbara. Father to Marcus and Guy, father in law to Ann Marie, grandfather to James and Chloe, and friend of so many, Dad passed away peacefully after a short period of illness at his home; Oak Trees Nursing Home, Alne, North Yorkshire. Dad was born December 7, 1930, in Manchester. His 93 years saw him live an extraordinary and varied life through often challenging times. His pride in the years he served his country during the Korean War informed his constant belief in Queen and Country, and latterly his sense of duty to the community through volunteering. His sociability was legend. He never judged, always sought to help where needed, and left newfound acquaintances as friends. His gentle humour and gentlemanly manner will be sadly missed by family, friends, and the many groups across the north of England in which he participated. The funeral service will be at 11am on July 15 at St John the Baptist and All Saints Church, Easingwold. There will be a gathering for lunch of friends and family afterwards at the George Hotel, Easingwold, to allow us to share memories and our thoughts about Dads life, and the part he played in our own. Family flowers only please. Donations if desired would be gratefully received by the Royal British Legion, c/o Chapman Medd Funeral directors, Market Place, Easingwold. YO61 3AD. 01347 808598.
