THE Lake District National Park Authority's development control committee made the following decisions on planning applications in the South Lakeland area: Approved: l Land at Kentmere Institute and on public highway; new lay-out of car park, realignment of road.

l Brathay Hall, Ambleside: Extensive alterations on various parts of the Brathay Hall Estate; and reconstruction of orangery, demolition of outbuildings, extension to kitchen and dining areas.

l Land adjacent to The Barn Owls, Old Toll Bar, Lyth: Siting of static caravan for residential purposes ancillary to the Barn.

l Windermere Aquatic, Glebe Road, Bowness: Demolition of existing timber boat sheds and replacement of existing fixed jetties with pontoon-style floating jetties.

l Beck Cottage, Crosthwaite: Extension to dwelling and new garage.

l Birch Bank, Skelwith Bridge: Replacement dwelling and garage following demolition of existing habitable dwelling and garages.

l Angel Cottage. Main Street, Hawkshead: Alterations to house and garage.

l Spring Cottage, Longsleddale: Extension.

Refused: l Southern Marina, White Cross Bay, Windermere: Replacement of existing timber jetties with floating pontoon jetties.

l A591 Langdale Chase Hotel to Waterhead: Construction of cycleway.

l Grasmere Garden Centre: Demolition of existing plant retail area and new plant sales area.

l Near Orrest, Windermere: Proprietary timber framed agricultural building to replace an existing structure.

l The Travellers Rest, Grasmere: Removal of existing caravan and freezer/store room and replacement with a new freezer/store room.

l Land at Mireside Farm, Crosthwaite: Polytunnel for agricultural purposes.

l White Foss, Longtail Hill, Bowness: Dormer windows.
