A BID to build a terrace of three houses in Bolton-le-Sands has raised objections from local residents and highway officials.

A Lancaster couple is seeking consent for the row of homes on steeply sloping land backing onto Lancaster Canal between 17 and 19 Whin Grove.

But eight householders who live near the site and county highways experts have objected, citing a lack of adequate car parking.

Poor facilities for refuse storage, a loss of outlook for the houses opposite and loss of privacy have also been flagged up in residents' letters of objection.

The site was given outline consent in 2001 for a single terrace house - planning permission usually has a five-year time limit.

The applicants now claim a row of terraces is more suitable at the site than a single terrace, and also supports the Government's push for high density development on previously developed land'.

But city planners are being advised to refuse the proposal at their meeting on Monday.

Officers state current restrictions on new homes within the district have to be considered, while they also question whether the site is large enough for three homes.

They also say two visitor car parking spaces should be provided to meet county council requirements but there is not sufficient room.
