FILM lovers are in for a treat at this year’s Keswick Film Festival, running from February 10 to 13.
Director Jack Gold will answer questions following the screening of his film Red Monarch and highly-regarded TV.
Jack has many fantastic films and television programmes to his name, including The Medusa Touch, The Naked Civil Servant and the very last Morse.
And film writer Kay Mellor will be on hand to talk about her career.
She revived the stageplay of A Passionate Woman at Hull Truck Theatre last year in which she played the lead role.
Originally a BBC TV series shown in 2010, her adaptation of her own play is now a feature film, starring Billie Piper, Sue Johnston and Alun Armstrong, along with newcomer Theo James.
The film will be screened as part of the festival at the Theatre by the Lake on Thursday, February 10 followed by a Q&A from Kay.
Best known for TV dramas such as Band of Gold and Playing the Field and film Fanny and Elvis, the Leeds born and bred writer - who received an OBE in 2009 - worked for Granada Television on Coronation Street, and in 1989 also wrote seven episodes for Channel 4 soap Brookside.
Another feather in Kay’s scriptwriting cap was co-creating the long-running children’s drama Children’s Ward with her fellow Coro scribe Paul Abbott.
Parallel to being a scriptwriter, Kay was also a television actress, and appeared in her own adaptation of Jane Eyre (1997) and in other series such as the comedy drama Stan the Man (2002) and in Gifted (2003).
Also featured in the festival is the screening of Les Blair’s Jump The Gun, by special permission of Channel 4.
And Craig McCall will provide personal insights and anecdotes following the showing of his documentary Cameraman: The Life and Work of Jack Cardiff.
Included to will be films from established and new directors, the best of world cinema including an appreciation of the works of Agnes Varda, a selection of war films that take a very different view to the norm, documentaries, a unique interpretation of Frankenstein – complete with choir - and the Osprey Awards for Short Films.
