KENDAL Midday Concert Club has announced a successor for ‘star player’ Elizabeth Howe, who retires as artists’ secretary in March.
Distinguished engineer and lecturer John Hiley, who plays violin in Lakeland Sinfonia Orchestra, steps in, much to the relief of all concerned, including KMCC chairman Stephen Greenwood, who said for more than 12 months despite appeals, no new candidate for Elizabeth’s role had come forward. So much so, that without a replacement the future of the club was jeopardised.
Continued Stephen: “Happily this has been resolved. We are fortunate indeed to have found such a suitable and energetic man for the post.”
Additionally, to boost the committee, well-known retired Kendal businessman John Barnes takes on the role of business administrator.
Meanwhile, the Aurora Ensemble wind quintet brings the first half of the 2010/2011 season to a tuneful close on Wednesday, December 15 (1pm) with a further six concerts at Kendal Town Hall, in the New Year.
