A SPECIAL charity concert is to take place on November 25 in memory of physiotherapist Joe Harrison – one of Furness’s larger than life characters – who died earlier this year.
‘Big Joe’, as he was known by many, was a towering and jovial figure and outside his work his love was music.
He had played with Ulverston Town Band for many years and had been chairman and solo horn player with South Cumbria Retirement Band since its foundation a decade ago.
Now the retirement band, plus friends from other bands, intend to pay homage to Big Joe and raise money for one of his favourite charities by staging a memorial concert.
* The South Cumbria Retirement Band and Friends concert is at Ulverston Catholic Church, Victoria Road on Friday, November 25, at 7.30pm. Admission is £5 and proceeds will go towards the work of Ulverston's Sandside Special School.
