A NEW website is being launched in a bid to bring greater cohesion and improved structure to the Cumbria music scene.

Slscene.co.uk is a community-driven local music website masterminded by Andy Smith of Kendal-based Evolved Addict Promotions.

Its launch will aim to solve the lack of communication that currently exists between Cumbria's various music scenes, which have no central hub for correspondence.

People interested in local music will be able to keep in touch with events, gigs and music stores in other areas as helpers from Barrow, Kendal and Lancaster contribute news to the site on a regular basis.

Organisations such as the Brewery Arts Centre, Furness Music Promotions, Fugitive Sounds, Cumbria Drums and Percussion and Circa Records will all be contributing to the site in a bid to strengthen the existing Cumbria music scene.

Brewery Arts Centre music marketing officer Julie Cotton believes that Slscene is a great idea.

"The area needs an online info-rmation point for what is going on in the live music scene and anyone who enjoys going to gigs or is in a local band should definitely check it out," she said.

The site will be launched on December 20 at The Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal, and anyone interested in contributing should telephone Andy Smith on 01524 761228.
