SKA seven-piece The Beat (pictured, left) are heading for Kendal's Brewery Arts Centre.

With a line-up featuring Ranking Roger, vocals; Everett Morton, drums; Saxa, saxophone; Blockhead, keyboards; Neil Deathridge, guitar; Tony O'Donnell, vocals; and Andy Pearson, bass, The Beat play Kendal on January 28.

Originally hitting the charts back in 1978 with their rendition of the Smokey Robinson classic Tears of a Clown and later with Mirror in the Bathroom and Stand Down Margaret, The Beat were at the forefront of the British Ska revival.

With a politically radical agenda born of their experiences of growing up in Birmingham during the seventies and early eighties and an authentic upbeat ska sound, The Beat managed to maintain their credibility with the hard-core fans.

After a decade apart the band have reformed and are back on the road again performing a storming set of early classics and new material that spells another raucous ska night at The Brewery.

The night kicks off at 8.30pm. To book tickets, call the Box Office on 01539-725133.
