IRELAND'S Lnasa head for the Brewery Arts Centre at the end of this month.
The all star quintet, whose latest album The Kinnitty Sessions has just been nominated for Album Of The Year in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, play at the Brewery's Malt Room in Kendal on January 25, 8pm.
Lunasa are Trevor Hutchinson, bass; Sean Smyth, fiddle and whistle; Kevin Crawford, flute, whistle, and bodhran; Donogh Hennessy, guitar and Cillian Vallely, uilleann pipes and low whistle player.
In October 1997, Lunasa released their first CD a mix of concert and studio tracks gathered from their prolific year together. The album was immediately hailed as one of the finest, freshest recordings of Irish music in years.
Since that auspicious beginning, Lnasa have become one of the most sought-after bands on the international Irish music scene.
The band's inventive arrangements are steering Irish acoustic music into surprising new territory with Lnasa redefining Irish music by going right to the heart of its rhythms.
Inspired by Ireland's 1970s group The Bothy Band, Lnasa use melodic interweaving of wind and string instruments, pairing flutes, fiddle, whistle and pipes in breathtaking arrangements.
