THE excellent European Ballet presents Sleeping Beauty at Ulverston's Coronation Hall on Saturday, October 9 (7.30pm plus 3pm matinee) as well as a performance at the Lancaster Grand on Sunday (September 26, 6.30pm). Originally penned by Charles Perrault, the epic fairytale tells the story of a beautiful princess bound by a wicked fairy's spell to sleep for 100 years.
The classic ballet will be staged in three acts under the direction of Stanislav Tchassov, former principal dancer of the world famous Bolshoi Ballet, and brings together some of the most respected dancers in the world of ballet, including Sabine Calcagno from the Ballet Classique de Paris and Maria Fichaux, a recent dancer with the Paris Opera.
Sleeping Beauty features lavish sets and costumes, wonderful characters, delicious moments, evil spells and wicked fairies in abundance.
The company was formed ten years ago by Tschassov and is committed to bringing classics of the core repertoire to areas that rarely see a tutu. Using the original Petipa choreography with Tchaikovsky's grand score, it is a golden opportunity to see a technically brilliant ballet. A class act indeed.
Tickets for the Coro event are available by calling 01229-587140 and, for the Lancaster performance, from the Grand box office on 01524-64695.
