The Witherslack Group of artists is exhibiting again at the Old Schoolroom from tomorrow (Saturday) until October 17 (10am-5pm). Paintings, woodcuts, baskets, glass, screenprints and much more will be on show by the 11-strong group of artists, which includes Judy Evans, Annie Hudson, Heather McClure, Jane Bradley, D.J. Roodhuyzen, Jo Vincent and Hans Ullrich. The group also includes Lancaster-based potter Alvin Irving, who was a prizewinner at an exhibition hosted by EUCECO, at Athens, which coincided with the Olympic Games. EUCECO is an organisation set up to promote development and artistic excellence in European ceramics.
ALL three of Bach's violin concertos (A minor, E major and the Double and D minor) and Boccherini's Cello Sonata in A Major are included in the second part of the popular Rydal Church Celebrity Concert series gala finale, staged on Sunday (8pm). Cellist Emma Ferrand, the Eves Instrumental Ensemble, violinists Richard Deakin and Kaoru Yamada and Ian Hare (harpsichord) are the eminent musicians featured. The Lakes Summer Gospel Choir performs in aid of the New Beginnings charity at Kendal's Stricklandgate Methodist Church tomorrow (Saturday, 7pm). The choir was founded in 2003 and, led by Robin and Michael Perris, of Storth, performs a compilation of gospel songs throughout the summer months with around 50 members from across South Lakeland. The choir's lively and inspirational programme is the Be Glad series originally performed by the New York's, Brooklyn Tabernacle.
SIXTEEN dancers, singers and actors (aged 12-plus) are needed by the Brewery Arts Centre to join the professional cast for this year's production of Aladdin. Performers must be available for all show dates at the Kendal arts centre from Thursday, December 9 to Saturday, January 8 and able to rehearse once a week. Auditions will take place on Saturday, September 25 with one session in the morning and another in the afternoon. Contact the box office to register before next Saturday on 01539-725133.
