THERE will be rocking and rolling in the hills this next bank holiday weekend as Rheged Visitor Centre celebrates its Guitar Show with a three-day music film festival.
To coincide with The Vintage and New Guitar Show being held at Rheged, there will four film evenings featuring some of the very best rock and roll films: This is Spinal Tap, School of Rock and Metallica: Some Kind of Monster.
Rheged has been selected for the first preview in England of the brand new documentary film Metallica: Some Kind of Monster. Three years in the making, this extraordinary and moving film provides a fascinating, in-depth portrait of the most successful heavy metal band of all time.
When two filmmakers were hired to follow the band into the recording studio, the idea was to turn the footage into an infomercial' for their new album. But when cameras started rolling they found the group needed a therapist to keep them from breaking up! The result is the most raw and real portrayal of how a rock group works. and how it sometimes doesn't. There are laughs a plenty in this new twist on a rockumentary that takes you from a group on the edge of extinction to a thriving, heavy metal band with an new number one album and a sold-out world tour.
For over 15 years of age only tickets for the film cost £6.50. It will be screened on Sunday, August 29, at 5.30pm and 8.30pm, and on Monday August 30, at 5.30pm. Movie + Meal tickets cost £11.95 .
l The Vintage and New Guitar Show, at Rheged on August 29-30 from 10am 5.30pm, is an annual event where you can touch base with new, vintage and used guitars, amps, effects and accessories. The 2004 show is the 50th anniversary of the legendary Fender Stratocaster, loved by guitar players the world over.. This year the show has moved to Rheged to accommodate the steadily increasing numbers. There are workshops, demos, and teaching sessions, and representatives from Fender and Marshal will be passing on tips-a-plenty.
