ANYA Alexeyev steps up to the Westmorland Hall's Steinway tomorrow night (Saturday, 7.30pm) for what promises to be one of the top performances of this year's Lakeland Sinfonia Concert Society's calendar.
A native of Moscow, pianist Anya joins the European Union Chamber Orchestra on the Kendal stage under the baton of acclaimed director Gernot Sussmuth.
Anya studied at London's Royal College of Music, winning the first prize at Newport International Piano Competition, and was selected for representation by Young Concert Artists Trust.
She is a regular performer at London's Wigmore Hall, and has appeared at all the other major halls across London. As a concerto-soloist, she has performed with many famous orchestras and gave the world premier performance of Paul McCartney's A Leaf in the presence of the Prince of Wales.
Edward Elgar's Serenade for Strings in E minor, Mozart's Piano Concerto 9 in E flat, Dvorak's Two Waltzes and Joseph Haydn's Symphony 57 in D all feature.
EUCO has gained a worldwide reputation as a musical ambassador for Europe and a regular visitor to many prestigious concert halls worldwide. Among its popular musical ranks is Arnside's Fay Sweet, now well established in orchestral circles.
The concert is part of the society's subscription series.
