- SOUTH Lakeland Support Group of Winged Fellowship Trust stages its annual fund-raiser at Kendal Town Hall on Monday (11.30am) featuring Mandy Burvill (clarinet), Stella Wilkinson (viola) and Josephine Large (piano) all members of the illustrious Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. The concert is followed by the event's popular two-course meal. - Mostly Theatre is touring with Happy in the Rain - an endearing romantic comedy depicting the life of Jack and Liz, a Yorkshire miner and his wife and their holidays in Blackpool. Playwright John Godber's slicing wit and dry humour are evident in the performance, which combines scenes from two of his plays September in the Rain and Happy Jack. The production incorporates video, music, poetry and art and plays Lazonby Village Hall this Saturday and Shap Memorial Hall the following Saturday, February 28. Both performances begin at 7.30pm. - ONE of the UK's finest touring theatre companies pays Kendal a visit (Friday, 8pm) and (Saturday, 2pm and 8pm) with Black Tie and Tales at the Brewery Arts Centre. Written and directed by the John Godber, Hull Truck's production is billed as Upstairs and Downstairs turned inside out' and tells the outrageously comic story of a black tie bash seen through the eyes of Bagley Hall's cynical and truculent staff. - TENOR John Cox gives a free recital of songs by Ireland, Mahler and Schubert at St Thomas's Church, Milnthorpe, on Sunday (3pm). Arnside Choral Society musical director Glyn Hopkins accompanies him on the piano. There will be a retiring collection to assist with the promotion of this year's Arnside and Milnthorpe Music Festival, which will be staged on May 8/9/10.
- PICASSO'S beautiful images of animals, birds and insects - created to accompany the classic 18th Century text Histoire Naturelle - are on show at Kendal Museum. Combining a wide variety of techniques, Picasso produced images of great clarity, and immediacy, which are considered by many to be among his most important graphic productions. Picasso: Histoire Naturelle runs until Saturday, March 13. The museum is open from 10.30am-4pm, Monday-Saturday, and until 5pm from April 1. For further details, contact 01539-721374.
- PAINTINGS of Popular Music and Sport runs at Kirkby Lonsdale's Avanti Restaurant on Main Street, until April 25 - the creative efforts of Hexham-based artist Dave Barden. Dave's images tap into the world of jazz, popular music and sport, drawing on his experiences as an athlete and a major passion in his life music. Among his credits are a commission by Gateshead Council in 2000 to paint a portrait of Olympic gold medallist Jonathan Edwards when he was awarded the freedom of Gateshead.
