RENOWNED for his vigorous, intricate and strong sense of musicality, Jerwood Choreography Award winner Henri Oguike, and his magnificent seven' dancers, present a programme of contrasting dance pieces at Lancaster University's Nuffield Theatre, on Thursday, March 4 (8pm).
Henri Oguike's work has been described as suggestive, intriguing and vigorous in its nature, generating a theatrical environment that combines powerful dancing and technical excellence.
Passionate about the relationship between live music and dance in performance, Oguike's company uses Shostakovich's 9th Quartet in E Flat, played live by the Carducci Quartet, in its Front Line piece.
Hailed by many for its fresh ideas that bristle with personality, the company's performance features the British premiere of Oguike's multi-media White Space - a septet set to a compilation of tracks performed to Scarlatti's bright and rhythmic pieces for harpsichord with superb lighting by Guy Hoare.
In F.P.S. (Frames per second parts 1 & 2), Oguike returns to Bill Evan's original piano recording of Piece Peace and creates a new duet exploring movement, light and sound, again laced with the music of the Carducci Quartet.
Hosting the Henri Oguike Dance Company is a feather in the Nuffield's contemporary cap and concluding its visit is Finale - a full company work set to a compilation of tracks by French composer Rene Aubry. To book a seat, call the box office on 0800-028-3042.
