APPLEBY Grammar School students hosted their own fund-raising Pop Idol competition to select their favourite in-house band to play at yesterday's Pop, Rock, Blues, Country, Folk event in aid of the Appleby Public Sports Hall appeal fund.
Four-piece rock band Teen Element (above, right) beat all rivals and were selected as the students' choice to play in the event which included singers and dancers.
Teen Element Greg Hill, 13; Tony Codd, 15; Nathan Williams, 13; and lead singer and guitarist Megan Williams, 12; have been together a year and, as well as playing classic rock, also perform their own work. Megan has recently cut her first CD after winning a local singing competition.
As well as Teen Element and fellow students, the evening included performances by members of the teaching staff.
