A GROUP of bright young things from Kendal are striking out in pursuit of local music heroes and darlings of the music press - British Sea Power.

Big Green Blue are a fresh-faced group of teens possessing more than a smattering of talent and good fortune, who are about to test the waters of success.

The group - Michael Denny, bass and vocals; Ben Checkley, guitars; Simon Denny on drums; and featuring Fiona Simpson on backing vocals and violin - cut their teeth performing at jam nights at Dickie Doodles.

And before they have even left school, the four have performed a support slot with the now Brighton-based British Sea Power, formerly of Kendal.

Following their guest slot supporting British Sea Power at the John Boste, they are now poised to take things on a level by releasing their demo CD It Tastes Like Morecambe – a name which “just stuck” after Ben was offered a doughnut and refused on the grounds that it tasted of the seaside town.

With influences from Ska to Old Rock and New Indie and even a couple of acoustic numbers, the group claim their CD will leave people wanting to hear more.

The sounds of Oasis, Stereophonics and The Coral have all cut deep influences on the group who have been performing together and writing original material for a year.

Michael said: “British Sea Power really encouraged us by giving us the chance to support them and since then they have heard some of our new stuff. We went down to see them in concert last month in Liverpool and we had a chat with them. They have inspired us”.

Big Green Blue will play at Dickie Doodles on December 10 where they will launch their demo CD. The group will be asking for a £2 donation for each copy of the CD and all the money raised will be donated to the Heart Unit at Westmorland General Hospital and Autism.
