MAD, Bad and Dangerous sounds more like a fast and furious Bruce Willis action flick rather than an exhibition at Grasmere’s Wordsworth Trust.

But, in his day, the figure at the centre of the show was every bit as glamorous as any Hollywood star – Lord Byron.

The continuing fascination with Byron (1788-1824) is reinterpreted in the new exhibition by the National Portrait Gallery, with more than 100 works including paintings, photographs, letters, literary manuscripts, memorabilia and examples of Byronic dress.

More pictures in Leisure next week.

Meanwhile, the trust’s Tuesday evening poetry readings continue next week (July 8, 6.30pm) at Grasmere’s Thistle Hotel, Prince of Wales suite, with a double-handed reading by poet and translator of Homer, Christopher Logue, and novelist and poet Sophie Hannah.

Christopher has also written film screenplays and appeared in Ken Russell’s Dante Inferno and The Devils and, since 1961, has contributed his True Stories column to Private Eye.

Sophie is the author of three novels, Gripless, Cordial and Corrosive, and The Superpower of Love.

Tickets £5 at the door, £4 if booked in advance on 015394-35544.
