THE VERY best of the UK's indie, rock and screamo live music scenes descend on the Canteen for another quality three days of entertainment, starting tonight with three of the best up and coming local talents on show.

After no less than 13 live acts played the venue last week, eight top acts selected both locally and nationally will be on show at Cumbria's most popular live music venue. Music fans will be given the opportunity to see the best new acts of the London, Essex, Preston and Manchester independent music scenes form tonight through to Saturday night.

Tonight is an all Furness affair with Insane Matchstick Bombers. Recoil, Blood Dry playing the Barrow and Furness Music Project and Cumbrio sponsored Furness Rising showcase. Insane Matchstick Bombers play the venue as headliners for the first time after making waves with their blend of indie rock.

They will be followed by headbanging traditional rock combo Recoil who took last week's Rock Against Racism event by storm with a blinding three-song set. Blood Dry are certainly dark and should appease the metal goth fraternity with their original take on satanic rock.

Friday night will see indie covers and originals favourites Alibi return to the venue to support one of the UK's best rated new acts, How's My Pop from Manchester. Alibi are perhaps the only mainly covers act to get a regular slot at the Canteen but their enthusiastic verve and stylish take on popular indie classics is so enjoyable that they almost make the numbers their own. Its easy to see why they are one of the area's most popular bands. Hows My Pop? are a band clearly going places with TV, Radio One and festival appearances par for the course at the moment.

So it is anther coup for the Canteen to get the band back after a storming gig at the venue in April.
