OKLAHOMA was the first musical play created out of the tuneful teaming composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist and librettist Oscar Hammerstein.
First staged way back in 1943, it apparently marked a significant change in musical drama, focusing more on the emotional depth of characters and using dance to convey plot.
Grange and District Amateur Operatic Society brings Oklahoma to the seaside town's Victoria Hall from Tuesday, February 27 until Saturday, March 3. As usual, the production is under the guiding hand of producer and choreographer Christine Bell.
Based on the book Green Grow the Lilacs by Lynn Riggs, Christine is confident that Oklahoma will make good box office for GDAOS.
All performances start at 7.30pm with a 2.30pm, Saturday (March 3) matinee.
Tickets are available in person at Butterfingers from 10am-noon and 2pm-4pm or by telephone on 015395-34098.
