Broken Side Of Time: Alberta Cross (Ark Recordings).
New York-based Alberta Cross caused quite a stir with their debut EP The Thief and the Heartbreaker in 2007. Now they are back with their first full album - and it's a stunner.
The group is sometimes compared to Kings Of Leon and there is a similarity there but Petter Ericson Stakee (vocals and guitar) helps to create a very different feel with his haunting, almost Neil Young-like vocals.
Great tracks abound on this album, including the moody opener Song; Three Blues, with its vicious riffing atack; the bluesy Rise From The Shadows; and gentle and keening Ghost Of City Life.
Alberta Cross sound like they mean serious business - this is big music, full of heart anfd soul.
