When Phones Were Immobile and Lived in Red Boxes
Author: Gladys Hobson.
Published by Magpies Nest Publishing.
In this slim volume, the author reminisces about her childhood years between 1939 & 1953.
She tells of how she gave her heart to Jesus in 1941 and how she subsequently developed her own spirituality with the help of family, and a box of bananas. She covers a multitude of things she experienced (or not) from the NHS , WWII, Sex Education, Boys, Family Affairs and how she became a Dress Designer.
The book has some very funny anecdotes, but it also shows how people had to "make do & mend", and how life was much simpler then. It shows a different way of life, but it is a very entertaining book, I could not put it down.
Buy it, not only for an enjoyable read, but to support a project to raise money for a children's education programme to combat aids in Africa. Well worth the money!
