WE ARE going back to a reliable red for our recommended tipple this week as it goes well with all that meat from the barbecue.
We opted for a retro Konunga Hill Seventy Six Shiraz Cabernet – a range was created in celebration of the legendry 1976 vintage and first released in 2006, 30 years on from the original.
Using grapes from Southern Australia this wine is designed for current drinking, yet like most Koonunga Hill reds, it will benefit from a three to five year stint in the wine rack. It is ripe, full and spicy with subtle tannins. The hints of berry make it a definite Shiraz blend and perfect for red meat. If your not a meat eater it will still drink well with a blue cheese and walnut salad. Penfold's Koonunga Hill 'Seventy Six' Shiraz Cabernet, South Australia is available from Booths at £9.99 – usual price £12.99, offer ends August 13.
