WE HAVE pitched for a lighter tipple this week – Big Top White Zinfandel Rose.
This is aa crisp Californian Rose produced with 100 per cent zinfandel grapes picked from the old vineyards in the Lodi region.
These are lightly crushed to create pretty pink wine that is a real crowd pleaser, great to share with friends or chilled for a picnic.
The tasting notes scream of summer treats such as ice cream sundaes, strawberries and fruity jam. You don't necessarily need to pair this with food as it's really great alone.
However, as we are always eating we had a few sips with a lemon meringue pie. The strawberry hints really helped to balance out the zing of the lemon. If you are being good and avoiding desserts then this would also go with a summer salad.
It is £6.79 a bottle from Windermere Wine Stores.
