I THOUGHT a little liqueur tipple could be just the thing this week – so opted for Cowmire Hall Damson Gin.
As you all no doubt know, the orchards of Lyth and Winster have been awash with lovely white blossom and by September will be full of Westmorland Damsons. The gin is made purely with three simple ingredients – damsons, water and last, but by no means least, gin.
The rich purple fruit gives it a wonderful colour and it is not short on taste either, as the fruit balances the gin and has an almost syrupy texture with a warming finish.
I prefer this served as an aperitif yet a suggestion of a Damson Royal given was enough, so I had to try one. I added a small measure to a glass of fizz– it's a wonderful partner and makes a cocktail which is sure to impress.
Available from Windermere Wine Stores at £20.25 for 50cl.
