This week I have had a wonderful time sampling NV Champagne.
Now strawberries are in season too, I couldn't resist. My favourite was a feast for the eyes as well as the tongue. Starting with the packaging, this Champagne looks fantastic and this quality carries on into the bottle. A blend of all three grapes permitted in Champagne — pinot noir, chardonnay and the less well-known pinot meunier — the Perrier Jouet Grand Brut NV demonstrates white flowers, white fruit, pineapple and grapefruit flavours with a light, creamy mousse.
It is a fresh, lively, perfectly balanced wine that can be enjoyed as an aperitif and at any time of the day with light dishes. A classic British match would be fish and chips while watching England beat New Zealand. Or if you’re not a cricket fan, simply with a few juicy English strawberries.
Available from Majestic Wine at £25.
