WITH the grain in mind I meandered over to the Brown Horse at Winster to check out their microbrewery, now producing six ales available in both bottle and draft form.
For all you bitter lovers out there, this one is for you. Winster Valley Brewery Best Bitter is a hand-crafted ale which is smooth and full bodied with a nose of orchard fruits and a caramel finish. Brewed with English hops, its golden brown biscuit colour and roasted malt flavours really give your palate satisfying lift with the berry and fruit flavours then the spiky bitter hop lift to finish.
Personally we had to pair this with a good meat pie as the flaky pastry and rich filling matched the bitter perfectly.
Available to purchase directly from the Brown Horse or online from Winster Valley Brewery; alternatively pop to Bargain Booze in Bowness, at £2.40 a bottle.
