Two South American belters for you this week from Chile.
The wines are the Altitudes Sauvignon Blanc 2011 and Merlot 2011, both from Wine Time at Green Fields Farm and made by Casa Lapolstolle, a highly regarded winery in the Valle Central in Chile and imported by EWGA. The Sauvignon pours a golden straw colour followed by aromas of citrus and pear which lead to a palate of refreshing crisp acidity and mineral notes. This is an easy wine which would complement any seafood dish or is perfect on its own.
The Merlot has a deep purple colour when poured. Lightly spicy cherry and damson aromas with a hint of fresh herbs on the nose. Medium-bodied damson, blackberry and redcurrant flavours with exotic spices coming through on the long finish in the mouth. This is a stylish red best paired with stews, pasta and hard cheeses.
Both wines are £7 a bottle, from Wine Time – and worth every penny.
