This week I bring you two very interesting wines from Wine Time EWGA's shop at Greenlands Farm Village, near Carnforth – and in plenty time for your Christmas and New Year.
First is a sparkling wine by Berton Vineyards. Rather aptly named Head over Heels is a 100 per cent Chardonnay and the twist here is it’s a screw top sparkling with a nose of toffee apple and leads to a sensation of orange, apple and honey which lingers in the mouth and leaves a refreshing zip on the palate, definitely one to kick off the celebrations with and a steal at only £7.99 (normally 9.99) from EWGA.
Our red comes from the Catalunya region of Spain and is the Projecte Qu4tre. This is based on an idea of finding and using the best four grapes no matter what areas they come from and blending them. In this case the grapes are monastrell, syrah, grenache and carignan.
The wine shows a wonderful cherry colour and with a nose of vibrant, red fruit and structured flavours of liquorice, redcurrant and cherry and finished with lingering, dry fruit on the palette. One for the beef and available for only £9 per bottle, but also on a 3 for 2 promotion if you catch it quickly.
