A ‘PHENOMENAL’ cook has wowed judges with a traditional Lakeland recipe and landed a spot in the final of a top TV cookery competition.
Diana Brown, a former Great Cumbria Cookery Competition winner, who runs Tythebarn House bed and breakfast in Holme, has been named as a national finalist on ITV’s Britain’s Best Dish.
Ms Brown impressed TV chef John Burton Race, Jilly Goolden and Master Chef’s Ed Baines with her damson and apple pie, which has secured her a finals spot.
Her dish features damsons from George Handley’s farm at Heversham Hall and an ancient apple called Catshead from Hilary Wilson in Appleby.
Ms Brown last appeared on national TV with her award-winning pie on May 2 when she saw off stiff competition. Judge Jilly Goolden described the pie as ‘something unusual, different, traditional’ and presenter Mary Nightingale called Diana a ‘pretty phenomenal cook’.
Diana — a self-confessed ‘total foodie’ — said she only entered the competition after much persuasion from her husband, Vic, and will next appear in the national finals on May 25.
