It's back! The competition everyone wants to win dinner for two at one of the Lake District's top restaurants.

LEISURE has lined up a galaxy of culinary stars over the coming weeks, including The Drunken Duck near Ambleside, Rustique restaurant at Ulverston, and The Greyhound at Shap.

This week the spotlight is on Jambo at Windermere whose chef-patrons are Kevin and Andrea Wyper.

The couple enjoy the perfect marriage - of the heart and the stomach, a harmonious blend of sweet (Andrea's handiwork) and savoury (Kevin's) which has earned them a devoted following since they opened six years ago.

Their menu is an icon to Modern British cuisine and reflects an innovative use of ingredients which are always seasonal and produced locally wherever possible. Jambo is also renowned for its friendly atmosphere and excellent service which means it more than lives up to its name Jambo is Swahili for 'welcome'.

Here's just a sample of some of the delicious food our winner can look forward to. The menu changes weekly so that Jambo can always offer what's at its best: l Pan roasted Grizedale wild venison carved over roasted sweet potatoes, beetroot pilaff and a red wine sauce l Crisp potato rosti topped with a ragout of leeks, chestnuts & spinach topped with goats cheese & pesto l Pan-seared breast of Goosnargh duck, crispy slow cooked leg with roasted plums & a butternut squash caponata l Hot Baileys souffl with a 'rocher' of coffee & honeycomb ice-cream l Trio of classic desserts including warm bread & butter pudding, vanilla-baked Alaska & warm treacle tart l Light passion fruit panna cota surrounded by a warm glazed salad of exotic fruits & berries.
