BOWLAND'S Steve Swarbrick won Sunday's Arnside Knott trail race and was also first veteran home.

He beat Black Combe's Harvey Lord (35-40) by 21 seconds in clocking 35-19 while Howgill's Tom Cowin placed third in 36 minutes. First under 23 was Helm Hill's Alex Hinchcliffe (36-15).

Howgill's Heidi Dent was a comfortable winner of the ladies's race, finishing a respectable 11th overall in 38-18 with Settle's Rachel Hill second but first V40 in 42-27.

The race attracted a field of 137 runners.
