AN exciting book created by the community is helping spread the word about Ulverston after a copy ended up on eBay.

More than 5,500 copies of Profound Colours were delivered free to every home in the town this week, and one has already been put up for sale on the internet auction site with a £10 price tag.

The news has been welcomed by artist Simon Grennan, one of the project organisers, who wanted to create an ‘intriguing keepsake’ which could be found in the town for many years to come.

The book was part of the town’s biggest ever community arts project and features photographs, taken by residents, to represent ‘the colours of Ulverston’. It includes pictures of flowers, bright walls, trainers and paintings by local schoolchildren.

Mr Grennan said: “Giving away more than 5,000 of the books starts a journey for the books and their readers, that can take them around the world. With past projects that have seen us give away thousands of books, they’ve found their way across the Atlantic and across continents.

“Seeing Profound Colours on eBay is a real affirmation of that process. We’re also looking forward to copies finding their way to new readers via car boot sales and charity shops everywhere. Let the journeys commence.”

Ulverston residents will get the chance to quiz Mr Grennan about the book at Lanternhouse, in The Ellers, tonight (Thursday) at 7pm.
