A CONTESTANT on BBC singing contest ‘The Voice’ is appearing at Water Yeat Village Hall on Saturday.
Folk singer Sally Barker moved judge Tom Jones to tears in her ‘blind’ audition with a rendition of Nina Simone’s ‘Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood’.
Her show at Water Yeat Village Hall, near Coniston, is to be filmed by the BBC and may be used on the programme.
John Willis, entertainments officer at the 60-capacity venue, has been a fan of Sally’s for years and asked her to perform before learning that she was to appear on the Saturday night show.
“I saw her with a female supergroup called The Poozies, looked at her website and really liked the music she performs,” he said.
“She lost her husband to cancer 10 years ago and has been raising her children on her own since then, so she has had some tragedy in her life which always seems to inform folk singers.”
Sally, 54, of Leicester, has been gigging for years and even supported Bob Dylan on his 1990 tour.
