A MULTI-million-pound Kendal golf club redevelopment has created five jobs and attracted new members.
Carus Green Golf Club owner Graham Curtin dismissed residents’ concerns over noise and said he hoped the new clubhouse in Burneside Road, Kendal, would become a ‘destination’ for the town to be proud of.
There was opposition to the development with some people concerned about a late-night licence, which they claimed would make the venue like a nightclub.
But Mr Curtin insisted sound-proofing measures had been put in place.
The development includes a new bar, restaurant, function suite and four apartments.
Mr Curtin said: “With the new clubhouse we will be able to hold golf seminars and product launches, as well as county events, and we have already hosted a Cumbria Futures (junior development) event.”
He said he didn’t see the club as being ‘just for the privileged’, but would offer ‘golf for all’.
So far in 2011, more than 100 members had joined the club.
