A MISSING monkey from South Lakeland Wildlife Park was found in Dalton cemetery this afternoon.
The Capuchin monkey - native to the Amazon basin - had been missing for five days after it escaped from the park on Thursday April 8.
It was spotted near Dalton railway station tunnel at 2pm today.
Police and Wildlife Park staff were called and tailed the monkey as it went into gardens around Anticross.
It then made its way into Dalton cemetery and wandered into the church where police were able to contain and re-capture it.
People working in the yard at FBM Builders Merchants on Cemetery Hill were asked by police to remain within their building while they dealt with the monkey.
It has now been safely returned to the zoo.
Insp Malcolm Woodhouse of Dalton Police said he would like to thank members of the public that called in and helped trace the animal.
