Hospital services in Kendal look set to be the big political issue next month, as voters across South Lakeland take to the polls in district and parish council elections on May 4.
Threats to services at Kendal's Westmorland General Hospital have been an emotive issue for residents and a new political party - Save Westmorland Hospital Group - has been set up to champion the cause.
Voters will notice a number of high profile councillors not standing for election this year including Independent candidate Elizabeth Braithwaite, who stood down after 25 years service with South Lakeland District Council, and Bob Barker who was portfolio holder for transportation and development.
To find out who the new candidates are and where they are standing, see this week's Westmorland Gazette for the full story.
