RESIDENTS of a South Lakeland village have been asked if they could find greener alternative methods of travelling.
Richard Leafe, chief executive of the Lake District National Park Authority, and Caroline Turner, South Lakeland District Council’s climate change officer, joined representatives of the Staveley Green Travel Initiative 9Staveley GTi) in going door to door in Staveley.
Residents were asked to fill in a survey in order to build up a picture of how people travel in the village.
Sonny Khan, project coordinator, said: “What we are looking for are travel options that benefit people in real terms - whether fiscal, health, time or greater quality of life. People generally use the car out of habit, and what we want to show is that replacing just a few journeys a week with alternative travel options can accrue real benefits to a lot of people.”
