- Hundreds of pupils across South Lakeland, Eden and Furness are today receiving their A-level and A/S Level results.
- We will be posting results from all the local schools - including those in Kendal, Ulverston, Kirkby Lonsdale, Sedbergh, Milnthorpe and Troutbeck Bridge - as we get them.
- There will also be comments from schools about how well they have performed.
- Cumbria County Council said early indications showed that students across Cumbria were on course for "another year of good performance, reflecting the national overall rise in pass rates".
- From the initially reported data received from Cumbria’s maintained schools, and academies, there appears to be an increase in the number of students attaining higher grades compared to last year, said a council spokesman.
- "This compares well to the position being reported nationally where there has been a slight drop in students attaining some of the higher grades," said the spokesman.
- "Indications are also that the proportion of students gaining A*-E passes at A-Level or through equivalent Level 3 qualifications has improved on last year.
- "It must be stressed at this stage, however, that these are unvalidated results; final statistics will require verification and further variation is likely as more details arise."
- Cllr Clare Feeney-Johnson, CCC's Cabinet member for schools and learning, said: “We are truly delighted today for the significant number of students who have secured some outstanding results; clear testament to their individual commitment and hard work.
- "Underpinning their successes, of course, we must also recognise the support that these young people will have had from their teachers and parents throughout the rigorous exam process. We thank them all and would like to congratulate everyone involved."
- National newspapers are reporting that the percentage of students getting A* and A grades is expected to drop to a new low today.
- Nationally, the percentage of students getting the top grades is likely to go below 26 per cent for the first time in five years.
