A DALES pub currently providing the only access to the waterfall which featured in Kevin Costner's naked shower scene in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves has been put on the market for £675,000.
The historic Green Dragon Inn at Hardraw near Hawes, where Costner reputedly played darts and dominoes with the film crew while waiting to shoot his risque scene, is being sold by the renowned Dales artist D Mark Thompson, who has owned it for 14 years.
However, England's highest single drop waterfall - Hardraw Force - and its visitor centre will not be included in the sale.
The Green Dragon, which dates back to the 13th Century, has many other claims to fame.
The renowned landscape artist JMW Turner stayed there while painting the Hardraw Scar gorge into which the waterfall plunges from almost 100 feet.
The Lakes poet William Wordsworth also stayed there and the famous Niagara Falls tightrope walker Blondin reputedly walked across the gorge on his high wire.
In more recent times it has become famous for hosting the Hardraw Brass Band Competition and the Hardraw Gathering, which attracts traditional singers and musicians from around the UK.
The Green Dragon offers three interconnecting lounge bars with traditional fire ranges, two dining rooms and a function room, and features include flagged floors, beamed ceilings and original stone walls. It also has 14 letting rooms.
The inn is on the market with Leeds business agents Davey and Co for £675,000 freehold or £100,000 for a new free-of-tie lease with freehold purchase option.
There is also a three-bedroom cottage and additional self-contained apartments available by separate negotiation.
Mr Thompson, who is retiring, says he plans to retain ownership of the waterfall and the visitor centre.
