HOUSE sparrows are in decline despite being named the top spotted bird in 2014.
Cumbria Wildlife Trust is now seeking the help of the public after the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch identified a decline in the populations of sparrows, greenfinches and starlings. The trust has said people can help boost numbers by filling feeders, cleaning bird tables, putting out water during hot spells and providing the birds with seed mixes.
It adds that the charity also benefits by people using leading online company Vine House Farm Bird Foods.
The company donates a percentage of its takings to Cumbria Wildlife Trust.
